Commander Motel

My husband had been staying here for work for a week, and I brought our kids to join him for the last weekend while I was working. When he went to ask about extending the room and taking the children swimming, an employee told him, “There are no pets allowed.” He said we didn't have pets, and she repeated, “There are NO Pets allowed!” while gesturing at our two little girls. He was shocked and said they were his children, not pets. She chuckled, said “same thing,” and walked away. I tried calling the hotel to speak with someone about it, but apparently no receptionist was on duty. I initially thought it was a decent motel, but the staff member was disrespectful and unprofessional. The kids and their dad left early to find another hotel. I don't recommend it if that same older woman is still working there. Do better.

It's clean enough to sleep in, though the room is small. Parking gets tough when the restaurant and bar are busy. You check in across the street, behind the Pelican gas station.

The noise kept us awake first: a band thumping until it stopped, then a couple in the next room fighting and yelling. With a poor door and no soundproofing, we could hear everything. Around 2 a.m. we went to the car for earplugs, and when we turned on the light, bed bugs were scattering across the bed. One of us got bitten several times. By about 2:30 we were searching online for somewhere else to stay. We reported it all at the office the next morning, and they just said, “well it happens.”

The room had no air conditioning, and despite booking two queen beds, we got one queen and a pullout couch. The manager treated me like a kid when I brought it up, saying, “Yah that is two beds, and that is what you get.” Poor service. I'd only stay if it were my last option. Better to go into town, in my opinion.
