The room seemed clean and in order when we checked in, but there was a strange smell, almost like baby powder. The air unit’s cover was partly off and sitting on the floor, and once I turned it on, it was so loud. We were rushing to get to our planned event, so we changed quickly and left. Later, my wife spotted a hair tie on the bathroom door. I hadn’t touched her hair things, so it must have been left by the previous guest. Looking around the bathroom, I saw mold along the top of the shower and badly rusted metal holding the ceiling tiles. In the morning, one of the two treadmills didn’t work, and the fitness room only had three pairs of dumbbells: 3, 5, and 8 pounds. Breakfast was disappointing, mostly pancakes and waffles. We were booked for two nights but checked out early. The receptionist didn’t ask what was wrong or give us a receipt. This has put me off Wyndham. Maybe we hit a bad time in the off season in a tourist area, but if upkeep slips then, how much worse does it get in the busy season?

The pool and hot tub were both closed for maintenance, and it sounded like they probably wouldn’t open until 10 a.m., with checkout at 11. My mother had picked this hotel because she wanted those facilities. The room’s jet tub seemed like a consolation, but there was no button to start it, and the front desk said it didn’t work anymore. The reading lights by the bed were broken too: one had a damaged lens and looked tampered with, and the other was simply broken. Neither worked. The AC wouldn’t hold at 67, so I switched it off, tried heat, then cool. It ran for about 20 seconds and stopped. The front desk told me to set it all the way down, which did make it work, but that’s odd for an AC to run only on its lowest setting. I’ll give it two stars because I like it cold.

I booked through a third-party company via wyndom, mistakenly thinking we had a handicapped accessible room. Instead, we were assigned a fourth-floor room. They said there was only one accessible room, and it had one fewer bed, so the 87-year-old got that bed while the 63-year-old had to sleep on the floor. That wasn’t what we had planned for our special vacation, and the staff were quite rude about it. The front desk wasn’t friendly either. I’d stayed here a few years ago and had a great visit, but I won’t be back. It’s going to be a long three days, and we’ll look elsewhere next time. Their loss.

The rooms are always clean, though I do wish they were bigger. During this visit, the hot tub heater went out. This was our second stay this year, and we’ll most likely return. A good experience overall.

The stairwell had a strong air freshener or carpet powder smell, while the lobby smelled of laundry detergent and chlorine. The lobby wasn’t tidy, and the breakfast area could have been cleaner. The elevator needs a deep steam cleaning, and there were dark stains around the shower’s tub rim. I’d pay a little more to stay somewhere else.
