The lake and private beach made this such a relaxing, low-key place to unwind. Thanks, Giles, for a wonderful stay. Our cottage was even better than we expected, and we wished we could have stayed one more night. If we return to the Adirondacks, Sunset Mountain Lodge will be high on our list.

The location worked well for what we needed that weekend, but the stay itself was awful. The room was old and dirty, with grimy floors and large red stains, and we felt uncomfortable the whole time. There was nobody around when we arrived to check in, so we weren't even sure we had the right place. About 30 minutes later, it turned into a party. People coming and going were loud all night, and from 1 to 3 a.m. we could hear a couple upstairs and the floors creaking. We got no sleep. The owner also made us uncomfortable. He was waiting outside our room in the morning so we could pay, and we had no idea how long he'd been there. They don't take credit cards, so we had to pay hundreds of dollars in cash. It struck us as strange, and we wondered if there was some under-the-table, no-tax arrangement. When you book a room, it's not clear that you'll be staying in the main "lodge," where the walls are paper-thin. It felt like being in a murder movie. I'm sure the cottages are nice, but the setup should be clearer when booking a room. We won't be back or recommend the place.

We've stayed there twice before and loved it, so this was a huge disappointment. We booked months ahead for Fourth of July weekend and sent a check, then the cabin was cancelled without warning because it was supposedly no longer available. We only found out after calling to say we might be a few minutes late for check-in. The response was, “Maybe you should book another time.” My weekend was ruined.

Right on Brant Lake, Sunset Mt. Lodge is a fun spot for a family vacation. Families gather here, and the beach is welcoming for kids and adults alike.

The view of Brant Lake is beautiful, especially at sunset from the beach. The people here are wonderful, and I always have a great time. Some guests have been coming back for more than 20 years.
