Hampton Inn Brattleboro

By nearly 9 PM, we were tired enough to accept a room that didn’t look properly cleaned. There were dirty footprints on the bathroom floor and a bit of tissue paper in the corner. That came after the first room stayed warm for about two hours, even after we turned down the thermostat and went to dinner. The front desk employee came up, tried the thermostat, and said maintenance wouldn’t be in until morning. When I asked to move to a room with working AC, she said that because we’d touched the bed by turning down the sheets, housekeeping would have to clean it and she couldn’t sell it. I told her the room shouldn’t be sold with broken AC anyway. She reluctantly went downstairs and brought us another room. We stayed two nights, and I don’t plan to return or recommend this place.

Robert checked us in and was friendly and helpful. We also appreciated the coffee and hot chocolate beside the front desk. We stopped here on our way from NJ farther north in VT, since it was one of the few reasonably priced places available that wasn’t a dive. The room was clean and fine, though a little cramped, and the surroundings were quiet apart from occasional highway noise. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was good, except one guest took over the waffle iron. I wasn’t happy about the $300 hold on my account, though it was released soon after checkout.

The room had large stains on the furniture, wallpaper coming loose, and mold around the bathtub. That’s not what I expect from a Hampton property. As a Hilton Diamond member arriving around 5pm, I also found the front desk interaction off-putting. The agent asked for my ID, then had me fill out a form and provide my car information. She seemed confused about who the customer was. The next few nights we stayed in Scranton PA, and Hampton there was the complete opposite: they welcomed me and thanked me for being loyal before asking for ID. That room was clean and well kept.

Friendly service and a clean, comfortable room made this a good place to stay overnight. The standard hot breakfast was great too. The $300 incidental hold on the card felt strange for a Hampton Inn.
