Regency Motel of Brea

The staff were nice, and the place is close to downtown Brea. But the building is old and poorly maintained. A towel hanger fell off as soon as we hung a towel, bugs came out of the shower drain, and the window blinds were broken. The rooms have only the bare-minimum appliances, not even a coffee maker.

BED BUGS. I’d give zero stars if I could. I booked three nights and arrived close to midnight. Before getting into bed, I checked for bedbugs like I do everywhere I travel. I found two dead ones, or maybe they were sleeping, and another one moving. I calmly told the manager and asked for a refund because I wasn’t staying in a motel with bedbugs. I wasn’t trying to be rude, just wanted my money back and to move on. I understand these things can happen and that a business may need to treat the motel and take a loss before renting rooms again. The manager said he didn’t see any bugs, so he wouldn’t refund me, even though I’d left the sheets uncovered for him to find them easily. Having bedbugs is bad; knowingly leaving them untreated and keeping guests’ money because you “didn’t see them” is much worse. He then said I had “clearly lifted the sheets looking for something.” I walked thirty minutes to the next closest hotel, the Hilton. I’d highly recommend booking there instead. It was almost 1 a.m., and they welcomed me with water bottles, two free alcoholic drinks, and snacks. There were no bedbugs in the room.

Everyone here was lovely, and the customer service was so good. The hotel was super clean, and they let me check out an hour late without any trouble. I was happy with my stay and will come back when I visit.

The location wasn’t bad and the price was affordable, but the rooms my team and I had for our three-night business trip weren’t clean. My blinds had dirt and handprints all over them, there was hair in my bed and on the stained sheets, hair throughout the shower, and mold in my fridge. One colleague found significant mold in the bathroom, and another had lots of dirt and debris in the shower. The ice machine took our quarters without dispensing any ice. There aren’t many other options nearby, and management refused a refund if we cancelled the rest of our booked nights. The rooms clearly weren’t cleaned or maintained well, which made for a very disappointing stay. At least the washer and dryer worked well.
