When the ice storm knocked out our power on Saturday night and temperatures started dropping fast, we brought the family here. We’ve now been here four nights. I’m grateful the hotel took our emergency as seriously as we did. After two nights, I realized we might need another night or two, and the staff were working furiously to find ways to keep me and other families in the same situation safe and warm in our rooms. They were incredibly busy, but worked hard to get everyone accommodated. The rooms have a full fridge, two-burner stove, lots of storage, and a huge work desk. There’s free laundry and a gym, and they welcome pets. The staff are friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is about some guests. There are lots of dogs, which is great, but people seemed to leave poop all over the sidewalks. I had to jump and swerve around 12 large piles on the way to my car, including by my door and the entrance. If people appreciate a hotel that welcomes pets, they should clean up after them. Staff shouldn’t have to pick up other people’s dog poop in freezing weather.
We lost power at home in Brentwood, so I called close to midnight Sunday and they booked two rooms for us. Rachel and Sy at the front desk were incredible and handled everything professionally. Rachel went out of her way to get us a good rate and help us rebook as needed until our power came back. I’m very thankful for their help through some extremely stressful days and nights. The cleaning staff were courteous and prompt too. Good hotel, nice rooms, comfortable beds, and a kitchen that’s a good size.
I don’t usually take time to review places, but I wanted to write about this property after staying here for a family wedding. My brother had recently praised the service and told me to call Rachel to arrange my booking. She was warm and welcoming on the phone and made me feel that my business would be appreciated. I then told a few other family members about her, and they called and booked for the same weekend too. Rachel was working when I checked in, and I was amazed that weeks later she remembered details from our conversation and things I’d mentioned we might do while visiting. She had printed information ready about those activities. I’ve never had that kind of experience with a desk clerk. I’ll stay here whenever I’m in the area because of the service, and I can speak for six others who feel the same. Thanks to Rachel for being so kind, and to Sonesta for hiring such excellent staff.
I still stand by what I wrote below, but I want to add that the staff overall were great and the room was good. It was that Cat girl who was rude and a thief! We came to Sonesta Simply after losing power at home. I was grateful to find a room for my elderly parents and small child. While I was waiting behind several other guests, I watched the front desk clerk boss people around and speak to them horribly. She seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Other guests were upset, and I heard some say they wouldn’t return if any other hotel had rooms. When my turn came, she was rude to me too. She said she had no reservation under my name and that it was my fault if I hadn’t booked correctly, then told me to find another hotel. She asked for my license and bank card so she could look elsewhere. I gave them to her, and saw her write down my card details and take a picture of it. That upset me, but I just wanted a room. She said she needed the information to find my reservation, then somehow did find it. I asked for her boss. She said she supervised the front desk and there was no assigned manager because of ownership changes. That didn’t make sense to me. I got her name, Cat, a young Hispanic woman, though I’m not sure it was really her name. The next day my bank alerted me to suspicious activity: online purchases and charges at another nearby hotel. I called to ask whether Cat was a guest, described her, and asked if they knew her room number. The person at the desk said she worked there but was off that day. I contacted corporate and learned the property is owned by Baron Hospitality in Alabama. I’m looking for their contact information to send this review. I’ve also contacted law enforcement, and a detective is supposed to get in touch soon, so I’m not going to interact with the hotel because I’ll likely sue. Beware of this property!
The room was so musty and moldy smelling that we started feeling unwell, and we left within an hour of checking in. I can’t say whether it was just our room or the whole building, but everywhere seemed dingy and musty. We’ve never checked out of a hotel early before. The staff were amazing about it, with no pushback when we wanted to leave, and we got a full refund. I never write Google reviews, but please don’t stay here.
