The views are breathtaking, and the rooms make it feel like you're back in high-class 1940. Even though I live only two hours away, I feel like I'm on vacation the minute I step into this castle. It's gorgeous, historic, majestic, cozy, and welcoming. The staff's smiles bring so much warmth, and the service is out of this world. This is easily the best resort I've experienced in the United States.

We don't stay here since it's not really in our budget, but whenever we're in the area after a hike, Bretton Woods is a perfect place to wander around and have a drink and snack on the porch. They're welcoming even when you come in wearing hiking gear, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The Nordic center is great in winter, too, with a wonderful trail system.

We stopped in for lunch on a lovely winter day. The historic hotel was decorated all out for the holidays, and the lobby and public spaces had lovely decor. We had tasty sandwiches and hot cider with great views of the Presidential Mountain range. The food was very good, with generous portions that could be shared. The waitstaff were pleasant, though service moved slowly because the hotel was crowded, which we understood. Day parking was easy. Self-parking cost $10, or valet was $30.

I finally got to visit a place that had been on my personal bucket list, and the atmosphere and scenic views made it worthwhile. It's pricey, but I thought it offered incredible value. The hotel feels warm and welcoming, despite being touted as one of New England's most haunted. Any activity I experienced seemed mischievous, like it came from a former owner who cared deeply about her hotel and guests. Room #314 has a beautiful Victorian-era setup, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Stickney's pub had top-notch food. The cave, a speakeasy, and the 1902 dining room are breathtaking, with scenic views.

It's not cheap, especially when you'd most want to visit, but this really is a beautiful old hotel from another era. We've noticed they've maintained it and made improvements since we last stayed a few years ago. The staff are polite and helpful, the food is terrific, and the views are spectacular. Skiing at Bretton Woods with our boys is delightful and convenient, and we love how family-friendly it is.
