La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Bridgeport

We had a quiet stay at the beginning of Christmas week, and I could work without interruption in the living room area of our two-room suite. The hotel looks renovated and quite nice, and the staff were friendly. There’s a continental breakfast, a grocery store across the street, and a decent choice of nearby restaurants. It’s tucked away and a little hard to reach, though it’s right behind a Starbucks. I’d recommend it if you’re after a comfortable, quiet place in the area.

The night desk staff were understanding, and one of them came to my room to confirm that bedbugs were by the bed. The owner was dismissive and hostile when I spoke with her. She accused me of lying and told me to leave. She said I’d get a refund if I left, but she hasn’t followed through. I felt there was no concern about parasites spreading through the hotel. I’d found bites on my body and first asked the receptionist whether there had been bedbug incidents. She assured me there hadn’t. As the bites got worse during the day, I searched the room and found bedbugs at the floor by the headboard. From earlier reviews and things the owner said in conversation, it seemed clear to me they knew there had been bedbug outbreaks before. That made the denial and hostility even more shocking. This place is a public health hazard, in my view. Believe the other real reviews. I also found it suspicious that a hotel nearly empty on a weekend had so many positive reviews posted within a short time.

The TV worked fine, at least. The room was dirty when we arrived, the bed headboards felt sticky, and the beds were extremely stiff. There weren’t proper trash cans, and our room handle fell off. Someone in the room next door nearly got arrested, and as I write this they still might. That’s not really related, but I thought I’d mention it. We came to see family for Thanksgiving and won’t stay here again. Look somewhere else if you can afford to.

I didn’t get a receipt for one of my employees’ stays, and the front desk was rude and unprofessional when I tried to get a copy of the transaction. The person made grunting noises, like they weren’t happy to help.
