The location was convenient, right off the interstate and near lots of restaurants, and the front desk staff were kind. The spacious king suite had a view of the water park, which the kids, including the toddlers, enjoyed. Breakfast had waffles, though the dining room floor felt sticky and gross, and they ran out of waffle mix without replacing it. Waffles were the main option at the hotel’s continental breakfast. The rooms were humid and musty from the water park, like sitting in a sweaty sauna, and needed better ventilation. Then our AC/heater stopped working. There were potato chips on the couch, and the floor had visible stains and looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed or shampooed in years. The water park itself didn’t seem clean either, with chunks and dirty flecks floating in the water and an unsanitary smell. On our last day, someone brought more towels, which was nice, but left our door open. Anyone could have entered and taken our things. The same happened to our parents next door. The doors are hard to shut and need a good pull, but staff should know that. We weren’t happy about it. We’d never stayed here before, and probably won’t again if we return to Brookings. It may once have been a nice place, but upkeep and maintenance have fallen off.

Save your time and money. The room was dated and clearly hadn’t been cleaned well, if at all. The floors hadn’t been vacuumed, there was trash by the bed that wasn’t ours, and the bathroom was gross. The beds were very uncomfortable. My kids started sneezing and itching as soon as they lay down. From our room we could see the pool, and it looked neglected, with brown water. The TV was old and very fuzzy. We didn’t even try breakfast. If the kitchen is cleaned like the rooms, I wouldn’t let my dogs eat there.

A group of us stayed here for a wedding recently, and the experience was fine. It’s a standard hotel, but our room was spacious, clean, quiet, and pet-friendly. There were plenty of amenities, breakfast was included, and the location was fantastic. The price was very reasonable, and I’d definitely stay again. I’m not sure why the reviews are so mixed.

My wife and son were in Brookings, SD, for a hockey tournament, and the pictures my wife sent me were really bad. There was mold around the sink and shower, the room smelled terrible, and the furniture was covered in stains. The sheets looked like they hadn’t been changed. When my wife called the desk to ask about another room, the associate was very rude to her. The pool looked green and unclean too. With a major hockey tournament in town, you’d think a hotel would be ready for guests, but this one didn’t seem prepared to offer a relaxing stay.

We’d come back just for the pool. The lazy river, hot tub pool, slides, and splash pad were a huge hit with all of us. Breakfast was decent, and the staff were friendly. The beds were comfortable, though they’re outdated and not the cleanest. This place has its good and bad points.
