The old Days Inn had a breakfast I really liked, with waffles you could make yourself. Since it became Motel 6, that’s gone, and the stay has been a nightmare. Housekeeping barely came during our six weeks there. I had to ask repeatedly, then direct them to clean things like the toilet. The bathroom floor was never cleaned. Once they took all our dirty towels and bedding, promised to return with clean ones and vacuum and clean the bathroom, but never came back. The front desk couldn’t give me replacements because the employee said he had no laundry room key. A hotel should have basic supplies available around the clock. Housekeeping was also unpredictable about the do not disturb sign: once they walked in without knocking while it was up, and another time they didn’t come by for three days when it was down. We were refused service several times, too. We were charged $86 a night after checking in on a Tuesday. One employee claimed we’d arrived Friday, which wasn’t true, and the manager said it was because it was summer. Yet another couple paid $76, and the explanation was that they had a single bed. The sign said children 12 and under stay free, so since our two kids shared a bed, we should have been charged the single bed rate too. The old continental breakfast and Days Inn were much better. I wouldn’t stay here again.

I only ended up here because I needed a week’s stay on short notice and this was the only place I knew that accepted pets. The people I dealt with were nice, and the room had working air conditioning, blackout curtains, Wi-Fi, a microwave, and a mini fridge. It was fairly quiet, with a later noon checkout, and fast food places, diners, and shops within walking distance. I didn’t try the pool, laundry machines, or vending machines. There’s an ice machine on the second floor, but it wasn’t working. You might hear kids run past or see someone drinking outside their room now and then. The room itself was rough. I found roaches every day, including one on a pizza box after just a few minutes. By day two, my cat was itching, and I’m sure she picked up fleas here since she sleeps with me and I check her regularly. The sticky carpet left my feet black, so I wouldn’t walk barefoot. The old TV had a high-pitched whine and a picture that didn’t fit the screen. The shower curtain looked gross, and the shower head didn’t seem recently cleaned. My boyfriend saw housekeeping take bed linens from a room, spray something, then move on. For nearly $80 a night, I expected a cleaner room or an updated TV. I’ve stayed in cleaner places for less. Now I have to flea-bathe my cat and wash everything I brought so I don’t carry fleas or roaches to my new place.

Markets and diners are close by, and the staff were helpful with what we needed. The rooms were very clean and got done each day. Construction workers in South NJ should check this place for good rates.

We stayed for two days and had a nice time. It’s a good motel, I’d recommend it.

This place is a homeless shelter, and they should tell people that. No wonder they have a no-refund policy. I’m never bringing my family back.
