Econo Lodge Inn & Suites I-65

We were traveling as a couple for a business meeting. I was tired and picked the first hotel I saw, even though I'm usually picky. The evening staff were very friendly. They told us about a $100 cash deposit that wasn't listed on the booking site. We only had $45 between us and didn't carry cash, but the woman at check-in accepted it so we wouldn't have a possible ten-day hold on our credit card. The morning staff were friendly too, made small talk, and issued our refund. The booking site listed breakfast, but staff said there'd only be coffee in the lobby. At least there's a Waffle House next door. Room 109 was in poor condition, as the photos show. It was marked non-smoking but smelled of smoke, so I brought back air freshener since we were out most of the time. Housekeeping had left hairs all over the floor behind the bathroom door. The smoke alarm was hanging on by Band-Aids, which seems like a maintenance issue. The microwave and fridge shared the only outlet with the hairdryer. I had to unplug both appliances to use the dryer, and the room's electricity kept cutting out anyway. I'd dry my hair for a few minutes, wait 15, then try again. It took two hours. The bed was about knee-high for me at 5'4", making it very hard to get out of with my Lupus and RA. It's the shortest bed I've slept in, and the mattress was awful, with only a fitted sheet and no mattress cover. There were three nearly flat pillows, so bring your own. I got mine from the car and accidentally left it in the room. I wanted to leave, but learned the booking company wouldn't refund me, so I stayed and sulked. The hotel is right beside the road, so you hear and feel all of it. There was a huge pile of furniture a few rooms away, and I hope it means they're replacing everything. I won't return, though the friendly desk staff and a better kept property could have potential.
