The Brooke Hotel

When Hurricane Harvey left so many of us displaced and unsure what came next, the owners treated me with real kindness and understanding. This was one of the hardest periods in my life, and the hotel gave me somewhere safe to stay. They went beyond simply providing a room and made me feel comforted when I needed it.

The gentleman kindly helped us move our things into a second room when one opened up, and that room was considerably better. It improved my opinion of the hotel a little. The first room and the property itself left plenty to be desired, though. Cleanliness was a serious problem, and I had to spray and wipe the surfaces myself. We were there because Hurricane Beryl had knocked out the power. If the rooms were all more like the second one instead of the first room of horrors, I could call this a good option. Management needs to clean up quickly. The trash and construction debris look bad and are dangerous. The front desk clerk was nice.

The hot shower, good bed, and working heater or AC were the things I appreciated most. The ice machines are there but don’t work, and my room had no microwave or remote, so some expected conveniences were missing. The rooms are fair, and the linen policy only allows a change once a week. Remodeling is underway and easy to notice, which raises concerns for several reasons. The parking lot floods in heavy rain, and there aren’t many other places to park. With construction still going on, I worried about my vehicle. For an extended stay on a budget, the price is worth it. It’s pet friendly and generally calm, though rambunctious people or crowds could show up unexpectedly. The Brookshire police station is about a quarter mile away. Guests staying in the room need photo ID, and visitors have to check in first.

This little place was unassuming, but clean, quiet, and comfortable, with cold A/C. The front desk gal was as sweet as could be, and we felt happy and comfortable. The price was about half of what I’m fighting to get back from the other hotel, which is a big plus. There’s no Wi-Fi, local TV, or fridge, but my phone’s hotspot worked great and we stayed cool watching a Netflix movie. Thanks for the hospitality, y’all. I won’t forget it. We’d lost power because of Hurricane Beryl and needed a room for the night. I’d confirmed and paid for a reservation at a major hotel down the road, but they said they were overbooked and rudely turned us away. I frantically looked for somewhere else, and this was the only place I could find with a room.
