Gate 1 Inn

I only needed a place to sleep for one night, so I wasn't expecting much, but walking into the room was disappointing. For $85, it should have been cleaned after the previous guest, the furniture shouldn't be damaged, and the sheets should at least be clean. It isn't an awful place for a quick night, but for a little more you can get an actual hotel. I don't plan to return.

The rooms seem only partly updated. There are new floors that still aren't clean, and bathroom tile with layers of caulk covering corner mold instead of a proper cleanup. The vanity is new, too. If they finished the work and cleaned better, this could be a nice place. As it is, the first room we were given was already occupied. The next had no toilet paper, a large hole in the drapes, and furniture falling apart. A two-queen room for two to four people came with one little shampoo packet and one bar of soap. It's a pretty mediocre motel, though not the worst I've stayed in.

The rooms are on the small side, though comfortable enough, and the bedding, furniture, and floors were reasonably clean and in decent shape. The bathroom water pressure and flow are weak, and maintenance could use some attention. I've stayed here several times over the past few years, but I think I'll look at other places next time.

The room looked good at first, but closer up the updates were sloppy, with paint missing around fixtures and trim caulk in three different colors. I could live with that for the price. What made the stay unacceptable was the dirty pads left in the trash, a filthy mattress pad, and a fire alarm beeping all night so we couldn't sleep. I'd wanted to give them credit because they'd treated me well before, but these are easy things to fix and make a big difference. People can overlook rough paint and an uncomfortable bed if the place is clean and quiet. 🖤
