The Lodge at Bryce Canyon

The dinners were a pleasant surprise, and you really can’t beat the location. The mattresses could use replacing, and the breakfast buffet was short a few things, like something to add to the oatmeal. Still, it was a wonderful trip and worth spending a few nights in such a magical place.

The room was already very warm when we arrived, and we couldn’t figure out how to lower the temperature. Downstairs told us to give it 20 minutes because it was slow, but nothing changed. When I went to the desk to ask for maintenance, they said the rooms don’t have A/C. So why were we told to wait? They suggested opening a window or door and using a fan. We tried, but it was still too hot. This was not what we expected at all. The rooms were also wicked dark, so we had every light on, and our dinner burger was way overcooked. Worst hotel of our 10-day tour. We’ll tell our tour operator, and we won’t be back.

From the lodge restaurant, the Sunset and Sunrise motels are a 5-10 minute walk, with the major trailheads nearby too. Inspiration Point and Bryce Point are only a couple of minutes away by car. The restaurant had the most dependable food I’ve found in a national park, with proper breakfast and lunch menus instead of just hot dogs and chips, and the servers were all really friendly. The bed was comfortable enough, and the shower was nice and hot. The toilet had jet turbine-level force. The downsides were noticeably slow Wi-Fi, with video topping out around 240 to 360p, and wind coming through the balcony door that sounded like someone walking outside and trying the knob. Still very much worth it: I could get up just before sunrise, see it, have breakfast, then change and head out on the trail early.

The location was ideal, just a two-minute walk to a sunrise view, and we were steps from the Amphitheater, so we didn’t need a TV. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds were comfortable, and it was perfect for our family of three. We came in November, so having no A/C was fine.
