Hotel Calhoun by Oyo

The floor was dirty, the toilet’s sanitation strip was halfway flushed, and I nearly broke my toe and ankle on the bed frame. I only saw two roaches, which I guess I’m thankful for. The TV had no remote, so I called the office. Once I got one, I tried signing into the Roku TV, but there was no Wi-Fi. The clerk had to come set it up. The next day, I noticed an item missing from my room. When I mentioned it at the office, I was told he didn’t work there anymore. If you want a sketchy motel where you can smoke, it’s perfect.

The people were really nice, and at least they had hot water, lights, a fridge, and a microwave. Maybe that sounds like a low bar, but I’d had a bad experience at another motel. I couldn’t get past the roaches infesting my room, though. Other rooms might be different, but I left in the middle of the night, after the office had closed, and put my key card in their little window. Please don’t charge me for another day, I’m not there anymore. Their wall says no refunds, so don’t bring it up.

The AC didn’t work in the room we got, which smelled strongly of smoke even though we’d paid for a queen non-smoking room. The bed was a full at best, and they charged us $10 more than the price quoted over the phone. We’d called a couple of hours away and were asked to pay immediately over the phone through their sketchy website, but we eventually got them to let us pay on arrival. They moved us after we reported the AC. It worked in the second room, but that room smelled even worse.

The staff greeted me warmly and gave me helpful directions to nearby stores and gas stations. They were right where she said they’d be.
