Squibb Houses

It was a quiet, lovely place, and we liked having a back porch and a second entrance from our room. The breakfast was great. The bed wasn't in the best shape, with slightly broken slats making the head end dip a little. Sleeping the other way around would work fine if you don't mind that. Our room's heater device, the "fireplace," didn't work, which was a bummer.

The location is convenient, right in the heart of Cambria and within walking distance of shops and restaurants, with local highlights a short drive away. I also liked the fragrant herb garden around the Victorian property. But our stay in the Gothic room in the main house was disappointing. It felt dingy, shabby, and poorly maintained. The plumbing made a high-pitched shriek for at least a minute after every toilet flush, which was irritating in the middle of the night. The rugs looked worn, the soap bar crumbled as soon as I opened it, one bath towel was threadbare and bedraggled, and the shower soap dish was held together with duct tape. The whole building had an unpleasant fake floral cleaning-solvent smell. I understand an old Victorian house may have few outlets, but even one all-purpose plug in an accessible spot would have helped. For the price, they should fix the plumbing and provide decent soap, towels, hangers, rugs for the old wood floors, and coffee.

The Parlor Room was quiet, comfortable, cozy, clean, and nicely furnished. Breakfast was wonderful, with a warm and cold buffet, fresh berries, eggs, several breads and jams, honey, and good coffee. The building dates to 1877 and has been beautifully renovated with attention to detail. Such a lovely little place in Cambria, with very friendly hosts. We got a good rest, thank you!

Bruce is a wonderful host, and we will definitely come back. The rooms are gorgeous, the breakfast was delicious, and every detail showed such good taste and beauty. What an amazing place!
