Camp Richardson Historic Resort

With 12 kids in our group, Richardson House and its whole backyard were a huge hit. The fresh powder turned the yard into a great place for them to play, and we could walk to the lake or a nearby restaurant. There were five families altogether, and the house felt warm and welcoming. We especially liked having the living room apart from the kitchen, which made it more comfortable to spend time together. A few things could use attention: the downstairs bedroom stayed cold because the heater didn't reach it well, the basement door wouldn't lock and felt a little creepy, and the broken living-room sliding door couldn't be shut at night. Still, none of that spoiled the group getaway. It was just what we were looking for.

We paid $500 for two nights in a summer cabin, and I would absolutely avoid it. There was no insulation, a sharp thumbtack under the bedsheets, rat urine stains where rodents get in, and rat pee dripping down the walls while they ran around on the roof. Spend your money somewhere else.

Our one-bedroom, one-bath room suited us well since we spent most of our time exploring and around town. I liked the full-length mirror by the bathroom, too. The hotel is a short walk from its beach and only a few minutes from town. When a winter storm hit during our early January 2025 stay, having indoor access to the rooms meant we didn't bring snow inside on our shoes after going out. Guests get free on-site parking, with a pass provided at check-in. We'd definitely come back.

We've been coming here as a family for 25 years. Camp Richardson has lots to do, and its setting on Lake Tahoe feels especially appealing since much of the rest of the lake is so developed. The cabins are rustic but come with modern conveniences, and many look out over blue water.
