Motel 6 Camp Springs, DC - South Camp Springs

This was one of the scariest hotels I’ve ever entered. The parking gate and bulletproof glass at the counter were unsettling, and sirens seemed to go off every five minutes. The room was filthy: dead bugs in the refrigerator, roaches in the bathtub, cigarette burn holes in all the linens, and burn marks on the furniture. The bathtub spout was coming out of the wall. I kept my shoes on and slept dressed, on top of my purse, using a blanket I brought and then left there. We would have slept in the car, but that felt even scarier. It was so late and we’d already been driving for eight hours, or we would have gone somewhere else.

For the money, the rooms are decent and parking is fine. Rita and Mike know their jobs, are friendly and accommodating day to day, and the cleaning crew is efficient and pleasant. They work together to keep the property tidy, and I like that it’s consistently clean and landscaped. The office staff are great, and this location is pretty exceptional for a Motel 6.

I feel safer here than at any other motel, and the prices are affordable. Management has really stepped up, and the location has improved a lot over the past year. I haven’t seen bugs, the sheets are cleaner, and the machines stay stocked. The housekeepers are more understanding now too. They’re on top of things, and I like that. Great job!

The desk clerk was friendly and helpful, and I didn’t run into any trouble with the sketchy area during the half hour I was there. But as soon as I opened the door, I saw a roach crossing the middle of the floor. I handed back the key without staying. With two little kids, I couldn’t risk our belongings getting infested. I messaged Hotels.com for a refund and at first got no response, so I said I’d update the review if I received one. Customer service offered $9.95. I asked for the full amount, and they wanted proof I’d stayed somewhere else, even though I’d left. I gave them the receipt. They then asked for my details and said I had to send them within 48 hours or the refund would “expire” and couldn’t be reinstated. I provided the information and am waiting for the PayPal refund. The whole process is kind of irritating.
