UPDATED JAN 2026: There have been some improvements: maintenance has been quick, the hallways have new carpet and paint, and I’ve seen security on site, though I’m not sure what they do. But we still have problems. A recent utility bill was OVER double our usual amount for “water and trash adjustments.” Management sent me to the utility company, and neither side has given me answers. Packages are still left out and several have been opened and stolen. The garage door has been broken for weeks and left open to the public, while unhoused people still walk around the property and hang out in stairwells. A smaller but sad change is that we USED to have holiday and community events. The lobby counter, now piled with hundreds of packages without security, USED to be a coffee and bagel/donut bar. Those things went away with Essex. SEP 2025 REVIEW: Essex bought Revere in May 2025. I tried to be patient during the management transition, but things have been failing. There’s no longer management on site. You have to call, text, or email to reach someone, and there’s no guarantee of a response. A couple who had just moved in told me Essex gave them no instructions for getting into their apartment or even the building, and they had to work it out themselves. With staff on site, this could have been a very different experience. The warm, personal feeling from the previous team is gone. Now 10+ people covering several Essex properties pass messages and issues among themselves. Security has also been a problem. Since Essex took over, unhoused people have come onto the property and stolen residents’ belongings and packages left in the lobby. Management didn’t seem urgent about stopping it. There are cameras everywhere, but management said they couldn’t access them. I tried the on-site security number included in our rent, but it went to the security company’s corporate office. We had no security on site for 2-3 months. Security is back now, but the delay made it seem like Essex didn’t care much. Packages are left all over. When I reported missing ones, management just told me to ask delivery people where they leave things, which avoids the issue. Previous management put packages in secure lockers. Now there’s nobody to oversee the pile, and it’s a free-for-all. Even food delivery boxes have been left outside to rot in the summer heat for over a month. The property has become much less clean. Trash piles up and attracts cockroaches and rodents. Cleaning leaves streaks and uses cheap, very strong-smelling products. Pet urine on planters and bird feces on places where people sit no longer get cleaned. It’s puzzling and sad that management could be so careless, but with nobody on site it seems to be out of sight, out of mind. It’s clear to me that Essex mainly cares about money and cuts costs everywhere. It’s a shame, because the property is beautiful, in a wonderful location, and has spacious units. Previous management made living at Revere a wonderful experience, and I’ll miss that.
