Inn at Cannon Beach

We picked this inn partly because it sits away from the busy part of town, and that worked out well. Our second-floor room near the office and road was still so quiet we barely noticed other guests. The staff at the office were friendly and efficient, and the place has a personal feel that’s hard to find. We thought the off-season price was reasonable, even with a little extra for the big tub, which was worth it. The room was clean and had everything promised. The tub was a treat, and the bathroom had plenty of fresh towels and shower supplies. On a rainy arrival day, it was a cozy place to watch a movie, and we borrowed one from the office’s great DVD selection. Once the weather cleared, the beach was just a block or two away. That night the stars were incredible. Breakfast had a decent range for different tastes. The next day was sunny, so we drove downtown and farther north to hike at Ecola state park. We were there on a Monday in February, and I’d happily recommend the same timing.

The room made it easy to spend time in, with a big space, a comfortable bed, a table and chairs for meals, and a roomy balcony with chairs outside. It was very clean and had the useful things covered, including a fridge, microwave, bar sink, and glassware. The complimentary breakfast and coffee or tea were nice to have, and the welcome cookie was a sweet touch. It felt quiet and cozy while still being close to shops and restaurants. We also enjoyed seeing the bunnies around the property, and the beach is an easy walk away. I slept really well and would definitely come back if I’m staying in Cannon Beach.

The grounds were a lovely surprise, with mature trees, lots of planting, and a pond. We spotted the wild but very tame black and tortoiseshell bunnies when we arrived, which gave the place a bit of a magical feel. Our room was comfortable and nicely furnished, with a small deck and a fireplace we didn’t end up needing. The shower had the best water pressure I can remember. We borrowed beach chairs for sunset at Haystack Rock, going in from downtown, and also borrowed The Goonies DVD. We’d seen the Goonies house in Astoria a few hours earlier, so it was fun to watch in the room. There was a bag of saltwater taffy waiting as a welcome gift, and we liked the breakfast options, plus the coffee and fresh cookies available in the office. In the morning we crossed the street to the beach access and saw Haystack Rock from the south. We only stayed one night, but all of us would gladly return to the Inn at Cannon Beach.

The common grounds have a koi pond, lawn, and Adirondack chairs, and the rooms look out onto that area. Rooms are large and can have balconies or decks, gas fireplaces, kitchenettes, and seating spaces. The lobby has a fireplace and couches for relaxing, plus umbrellas and beach chairs to borrow. Breakfast covers a lot of options, including eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, pastries, muffins, biscuits and gravy, fruit, milk, coffee, tea, and more. Check-in comes with cookies and saltwater taffy. Haystack Rock is about a .75 mile walk for tide pooling. Mo's restaurant and Sea Level coffee shop are right across the street.
