The Lodge at Turkey Cove

The location right on the lake is great, and the room inside looked better than the old exterior made me expect. It was clean aside from one cockroach we had to kill. There was loud stomping upstairs until midnight. We called the office, and he said he'd text them, so we went up ourselves to ask for quiet. They did settle down. The beds were the main problem: hard, small, and uncomfortable, with flat pillows. None of us slept well, and even my 14 year old was tossing and turning. We all had sore backs, like we'd slept on the floor. For $150 with tax and no breakfast, I'd expect more comfortable beds. The office, where John answered, only said sorry. I probably won't return unless the beds are upgraded. The website photos seem 10 years old and are misleading, and the building looks especially old outside.

For a Hill Country escape, this is my pick above the others. The lodge sits in a secluded spot right on Canyon Lake, and the rooms are very nice and extremely well cared for. The whole experience was top tier, from the owner and staff through the stay itself. One of the best places around New Braunfels.

The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable, though nothing especially exciting. When nobody was in the office and the provided number went to voicemail, I worried we'd been bamboozled. A few minutes later the guy called back and was very polite and accommodating. Overall, not bad.

It's right on the water, which was a plus, and our rooms were very clean. They did seem a little dated, though. My fiancé, friends, and I spent a night there for a small staycation and it was fine. Since I live in the NB area, I probably won't return, but for someone visiting Canyon Lake from elsewhere, I'd say it's a decent place to stay.
