Inn By The Sea

The location is ideal, and we’d highly recommend the Inn at the Sea. We enjoyed the balcony and found our room nicely appointed. The front desk staff were always pleasant and helpful, even taking care of mailing a couple of postcards for me. At check-in, our dog had treats, a water bowl, a pad, and a blanket waiting, and the chef offers pet meals and service. In the evenings, the firepits were lit and guests could head down for s’mores. Yum! We felt a little like outsiders at times since many guests seemed to be repeat visitors, and some appeared to disregard rules like keeping pets leashed. Also, our restaurant dinner took an hour to arrive. If the kitchen was backed up when we ordered, we would have appreciated a warning. The Inn aims to exceed customer expectations, and in many ways it did.

The Garden Suite was amazing, with no complaints from me. The staff were amazing, the atmosphere was great, and the area felt safe. You can walk straight to the beach through the back of the Inn, too. This is one of the most beautiful inns I’ve stayed at. I’d give it six stars if I could, and I’ll definitely be back to Portland because of this place alone!

The rooms were spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable, and had beautiful views. Beach access was easy, and the views were exceptional. We loved the food, from the farmers salad and burger with fries to the short rib. We were never disappointed, and the fries and hash browns were the best potatoes I’ve ever had, cooked with care. Room service was fast and delicious. Most of all, thank you for being dog friendly. The staff treated our pup like a member of the family, rather than just “the dog,” and it was lovely to see how much they adore dogs. The hotel even provides a temporary home for a shelter dog before adoption. Brilliant. Special thanks to Ava for exceptional service. We’ll be back.

The inn itself is a sublime, peaceful retreat, and I’ve stayed here each winter with friends and family for several years through their Habitat for Humanity offer. I’ve appreciated the inn’s support for that organization. But I learned the hard way that the cancellation policy is absolutely firm, even for medical reasons. If you have health issues or might need to cancel within two weeks, be aware that you’ll have to forfeit a very large deposit.
