Avon Cottages

The house was just like the pictures, so there were no surprises, and having a path to the beach right outside the door was wonderful. We drove from Iowa and arrived in Avon well after the office had closed, but they were happy to leave our house key in a hidden spot so we could get in without checking in. Avon Cottages made our first OBX trip amazing. We’ll definitely be back and stay here again!

Bring your own sheets, towels, toilet paper, and paper towels. Aside from that, we found the duplex a great value for the rental rate. The units are simple, but the kitchen had what we needed, the beds were comfortable, and the A/C was cold. Maintenance responded quickly to the two small issues we reported. We stayed in mid-June right by the beach access trail. The nearby beach was quiet and close to the pier, and I’d rent here again.

Skip the crowds and big hotels and stay in your own little apartment. The COTTAGES have easy access to a nearby beach that gets very little traffic.

The ocean views and beach access were the only good parts of our stay. For what I paid, I expected more, especially on my first trip with my family from Michigan to the Outer Banks. The floors looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months, and our feet turned black. Kitchen cabinet doors were coming off, shelves sagged, and a living room window was shattered and wouldn’t shut. There was a floor-to-ceiling drywall crack, rusty, dirty light fixtures, and bathrooms falling apart. The sliding doors were hard to open unless we pulled up and out at the same time. One bed frame gave way when I sat on it. For their prices, they could make basic improvements. It seemed like the cottages weren’t cleaned between stays and guests weren’t expected to clean up either. I won’t stay here again.
