Ocracoke Harbor Inn

I've stayed at several of Ocracoke's main hotels, and this was easily my favorite. The room was the cleanest I've had, and housekeeping came by each day to freshen it up. We enjoyed the balcony and all the in-room amenities. I'd especially recommend it for families with kids.

Room 101 was clean and great, with a small kitchenette and private porch. We could always find a parking spot, even though the lot is small. We stayed one night for the beach and didn't rent a golf cart. The inn overlooks the harbor, though it doesn't face west for sunsets. The office is across the street, and at check-in they gave us a map and island information. Breakfast was nothing special: bread and pastries, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, milk, and juice. Be aware the cancellation policy doesn't seem flexible. I wish the inn had told us about the hurricane evacuation orders issued at 8 p.m. My husband only came across them on social media at 7 the next morning. Also, expect a response if you write a review.

The front desk staff knew a lot about local events and attractions, and renting a golf cart right there was very convenient. You don't need one, but really, you should! Parking our car was easy. Both suites were spacious, had excellent views, and had nice big fridges. We were first put in suite 302, but its broken bathtub made it hard to bathe our toddler. The staff were helpful and moved us to 301, where everything was updated and worked fine. One suggestion for next season: the inflatable sofa beds in the living rooms of both suites are worn out and lost air about halfway through the night.

What stood out most was how clean the room was. I travel quite a bit, and lots of places barely do the housekeeping, but this team keeps the rooms spotless. I also liked the updates, including the bedding and the bathroom's stone countertop. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast bar was handy. The location is fantastic, and I'd definitely stay here again.
