I picked this beautiful place for a night away with my daughter while she was in a cheer competition. We had a lovely stay, and the location made it easy to get around without driving. Shops are close by and the beach is a short walk. The breakfast was the best part for me. It was one of those meals I’ll remember forever, and I’d come back for it alone. We’ll definitely return.

My husband surprised me with a night at The Hugh. The house and decor are pretty, and our room was lovely, but breakfast was a real letdown for a bed and breakfast. We were excited after reading good reviews, yet the only choices were turkey bacon, egg, and cheese on a small bun or pancakes. It just didn’t match the place that day. That was upsetting and confusing, especially since it has a highly rated restaurant.

Sandy Vizzone was easily the rudest owner of any place I’ve ever dealt with, and maybe one of the rudest people I’ve met in my life. They really shouldn’t be in hospitality. Their personality belongs at the DMV. I’d rather sleep on the street.

The welcome made this weekend feel more like staying with family than being guests. When my girlfriend and I couldn’t find parking, John let us use the driveway while we unpacked. It was our first time in Cape May, and whenever we passed other B&Bs we kept saying we liked our place better. Our room, the ivory room, was beautiful and full of character. We loved the privacy on the third floor, and the air conditioning felt great whenever we came back. The house itself has so much charm, with plants outside giving the porch shade and a lovely feel for sitting out. Shops and restaurants are about 100 yards away, so after parking Friday afternoon we didn’t use the car again until checkout Sunday. John was delightful and accommodating, and the whole staff greeted us warmly whenever we returned and wished us well as we headed out. Breakfast was amazing. Choosing our food the night before meant it was ready quickly in the morning, leaving time to eat well before exploring. I don’t usually post reviews, but Hughs exceeded my expectations. We’ll definitely be back.

Dinner at Maison Bleue was superb, thanks to their French chef, and Sandy and John Vizzione were friendly, hospitable hosts who made our stay lovely. The colonial and Victorian setting is delightful and very central, just steps from Washington Mall, with parking next door. Our Rose room was small and the bathroom really tiny, but both were comfortable.
