We loved staying in the Cottage Garden. It felt secluded and peaceful, with a beautiful farm and a view from our cottage, yet it was still an easy drive to the main sights on the Kailua-Kona side. Being surrounded by nature was amazing. Definitely recommend it if you want to get off the beaten path.

The common terrace looks past the tree line toward the ocean, and the sunsets were beautiful. Around the Bamboo cabin, lush vegetation and jungle sounds made the nights and early mornings feel vivid. The cabin’s open lanai let in a natural cross-breeze, so we never needed the fan. It has an outdoor kitchen, shower, and sink with propane and warm water, plus a clean compost toilet. The staff were attentive and supportive throughout our stay. We also had the honor of meeting the owner, Ms. Mayumi Oda, often called the “Matisse of Japan,” whose vision is about healthy living and environmental awareness. It was a unique, grounding experience, balancing natural living with everyday comfort. It felt less like a stay and more like stepping into a different way of being.

You can hear the roosters in the morning and coqui frogs at night, and the place feels like the real Big Island. The farm is beautiful, with lush grounds and a communal kitchen that looks out over the ocean. The accommodations are modest, but very clean, safe, and well kept. It’s right in the heart of Kealakekua, close to HiCO coffee and KTA Express grocery store, while still away from the tourists. We’ll definitely be back!

The location is amazing, definitely better than Kailua-Kona. If you like being deep in the jungle, showering under a giant tree, and staying off the beaten path, the Jungle Canopy at Gingerhill Farms could make for a safari-like romantic getaway. Couples should be comfortable with the intimate, open bathroom layout.

The shared kitchen building has a great view of the ocean at sunset. Their Jungle Canopy tent is glamping at its best, with a wonderful bed, indoor plumbing, a covered patio kitchen, and an outdoor heated shower. The other units share bathrooms and showers.
