Super 8 Carbondale

I booked a room for my daughter and sister while my daughter was going to take a college test. I called ahead and explained when they would arrive, since it was a five-hour drive. At check-in, the man at the counter initially wouldn’t let them in, and they had to pay a deposit in cash before he finally allowed it. The room was dirty, with visible blood stains on the shower curtain, stains on the bedding and pillowcases, and hair in the bed. Around 1:30-2 a.m., someone tried to get into their room, then tried again around 5 a.m. I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone who cares about safety or cleanliness. Management should be ashamed of the conditions and lack of concern for guests’ safety.

For the price, this is a comfortable place to rest while visiting Carbondale, and you could do far worse on a budget. The rooms are clean, with blackout curtains that are a godsend if you want to sleep in. They look dated and lived-in, though, and there’s a stale marijuana smell. The in-suite amenities are decent, and the rooms are quiet and fairly well insulated. Service was pretty good. If you don’t have a car, it’s about a mile’s walk to town; drivers won’t have a problem. Breakfast is just two cereal choices, milk, and OJ, but there’s a Dunkin right next door and Branch is in town if you can wait. Definitely recommend for the price.

The hotel was easy to get to and close to SIU, which worked well for the event I attended. The AC kept the room at a great temperature, and when my key stopped working before checkout, the front desk woman fixed it without much trouble. Still, the room and hotel were dated, and the stay was only okay. I was surprised to find three floors and no elevator, and needed the person I was traveling with to help get our luggage up to the third floor. I’d probably choose somewhere else next time if I had options.

The hotel was dirty and smelly, our sheets and towels were stained, and the so-called continental breakfast was just two old, dusty cereals. Worst of all, there was a roach in our bed. We went straight to the desk, where the first manager denied it and told me, “no you didn’t,” even though it was clearly shown in the attached photo. A second manager insisted on checking the room before moving us, blamed us, and argued about giving us another room. Neither manager apologized, and they were both rude. They offered no compensation. Other negative reviews describe similar problems. Save yourself and stay somewhere else. I’ll be reporting this place to the Better Business Bureau and the health department.
