Best Western Carlisle South

The beds were firmer than I like, since I usually prefer medium to medium-soft, but they were tolerable. The hotel isn’t the quietest, though noise never bothered me on either visit. I’d likely keep staying here for events as long as the price stays in range. It’s been a safe and fairly reliable option. Nothing fancy, but the staff have been great on both of my stays over the past two years. Most of them were still there, which makes me think management treats guests and staff well. It seems like it could be family-run, and things operate smoothly. Rooms are about as clean as you’d expect in a basic, non-economy hotel. Maybe a crumb here or there, but no filth or bad smells. Internet is decent, breakfast is simple but enough, and the TVs get pretty good DirecTV service. My first room was incredible for the usual rates. The second wasn’t as great, with a sink outside the bathroom and a door connecting two units, but it was still nice otherwise. Prices can climb during fairground event weekends, though that seems normal for anything above the area’s economy hotels.

The walls are so thin you can hear the next door slam a hundred times through the night. It feels like they’re in the same room, just using the closet. Forget trying to sleep here. 😩

I stayed one night for the Hersey RV show. Staff were nice and friendly, and the room was okay, but it had a hole in the bathroom door. The cover by the room door’s light switch was broken and missing pieces, which could be an electrical shock hazard if you have little kids. The doors to the back parking lot didn’t work properly either. To get out, you had to open the right door a few inches first, then open the left one.

The room was passable, but several things made our stay uncomfortable. There was no bathroom fan, so it got steamy and musty after showers. The refrigerator was so cold it froze our leftovers, and its temperature knob had broken off, so we couldn’t adjust it. Worst of all, the sheets were stained when we arrived. That’s unacceptable, especially in a busy tourist area like Carlisle, known for its famous Car Shows. You’d expect better cleanliness and maintenance. The lobby had a strong, unpleasant curry-like smell, and the “free breakfast” was the worst I’ve had at a hotel, with very little choice and nothing appetizing. Check-in was frustrating too: there were four of us, and when I asked for four key cards, the front desk lady refused and would only give us two. The whole place felt neglected and badly managed. I wouldn’t recommend staying there unless you have absolutely no other options.
