The Quail

My boys especially loved the nightly s'mores and the putting course. We also found the dining delicious, including Covey Grill, Edgar's Grill, and room service. The grounds are beautiful, everyone on staff was welcoming and professional, and the rooms were comfortable. We were lucky to stay in the villa suite, which had two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bath, a separate living area, and private patios. It was spacious, with comfortable beds, and the partial kitchen was a nice touch. Having a microwave, refrigerator, and ice machine in the living area was handy. We hope to try the bikes and pickleball courts on a future visit. My family felt privileged to stay at the Quail Lodge this summer, and we look forward to making it our home away from home when we’re in Carmel.

This has become our in-state getaway. We live in Penryn,CA, and after first staying here about 3-4 years ago, my wife and I fell in love with the location. The service has been exemplary at every level, and we truly enjoy the amenities. We feel like family now and have planned our 2026 stays for celebration and relaxation. I especially want to recognize Melissa and the other young ladies who manage the front desk. My thanks to all the hard-working people caring for the property, restaurant, housekeeping, and general maintenance. It’s no surprise to us that The Quail Lodge has been voted Number-1 in the industry. Truly pleased customer and family.

The grounds are so nice to walk around, and breakfast by the pond and water fountain is really relaxing. The Quail feels like a hidden gem, with spacious, well-appointed rooms and a great place to unwind. For the same price, it’s much better quality than other hotels in Carmel town. Will go back.

We met some nice people at happy hour, where they served red and white wine. There were quite a few hotel guests outside, at least 60 years old. We chose not to eat on site. The heated swimming pool was nice enough to try once, but the spa Adeline steam room in the women’s locker room was inadequate. Super unfortunate. I’d wanted to stay here for a couple of years, and we finally made it happen for a couple of days on my birthday this year. Check-in was friendly and welcoming, and as a birthday gift, I was upgraded to the pavilion king and given a box of Chocolate and wine. That was sweet. The bathtub was beautifully placed, but it’s definitely for one person and not spacious. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. After such a bad first night, we woke up with stiff backs and had to get KT tape, which helped over the next couple of days. The room felt mediocre, with nothing especially special about it. The green fairway and ponds on this multi-million dollar property are beautiful, and the upkeep is impeccable. There are pickleball courts, though you have to drive to get to them, as well as tennis and golf. The views around the property and on the drive in are stunning. Staff walked around and minded their business, but didn’t seem especially cheerful or welcoming. There was a windshield-cleaning station, but no solution available. I’d give the place 4.5 stars.
