Cypress Inn

We loved this place so much that Cypress Inn will always be our favorite place to stay. Our extended weekend was pure delight. The room was gorgeous, the bed was fabulous, and we slept so well. The evening turndown with chocolates on our pillows was a perfect touch. Breakfast had lots of delicious dishes, all prepared beautifully, and our dinners in the restaurant were just as good. The restaurant staff were attentive, friendly, and welcoming. We enjoyed the atmosphere, music by the fireplace, dancing, and delicious wines. The staff overall were the best we’ve encountered, from the courteous check-in to the kind help with our luggage. Thank you to the kitchen staff and everyone who made our stay special.

We paid over $400 a night and had only cold water in the shower. A maintenance man came, turned it on, and told us to wait about five minutes, but it never got warmer. I called again to say we couldn’t shower because the water was cold. The front desk said they were fully booked and couldn’t do anything. We were sweaty from our hike and didn’t want ice-cold showers. Very disappointing. There was no parking either.

The building is beautiful, the location is great, and the doggos are so cute, which makes it a shame that I left feeling so unwelcome. I can’t recommend the inn, and we won’t be back. We had planned an anniversary stay in March, but a family member died the Sunday before our Friday booking, within the seven-day no-cancellation window. When I called to reschedule or cancel, a weekend staff member asked me to provide proof of the death. I was shocked by how insensitive that felt during an already difficult time. I called again the next weekday, and a very kind, apologetic representative worked with me to find another date. I wish I’d gotten her name so I could recognize her. The Friday evening staff, bar staff, and housekeeping were lovely too. The stay went well until our last morning, when a smoke detector in the room across from us started blaring at 6:45am and continued for over an hour. At checkout, the woman who I assume was the weekend manager handed me the receipt without asking how things had gone. I asked whether they planned to compensate guests near the alarm. She simply said, “No,” with no apology or explanation. I wasn’t expecting money, just basic courtesy. I understand the alarm may not have been the hotel’s fault, but she could have explained that and apologized. I also felt she was ageist toward me because I was younger than many guests and dressed casually, and I felt completely disrespected as a person. I rarely write Google reviews, but I left with such a sour feeling that I wanted to warn people to spend their money elsewhere.

It’s sad to see how Cypress Inn has changed. We’ve brought our dog here for years, and though it used to be expensive, the customer service was incredible. Prices have gone up a lot, but they no longer provide the sherry decanter or doggie amenities. The cheapest room is $350, plus $40 for the dog and $40 for parking, and it’s so tiny, with no dresser or place to put suitcases. I guess it’s time to find somewhere else. :-(
