Vagabond Inn — Carpinteria North Mini-Hotel

We were really happy with this place for a quick overnight after an evening wedding. The room was clean and tidy, and we saw security doing a sweep before we went upstairs, which made us feel safe. It was close enough that we could have walked to the venue. Coffee in the lobby and a microwave by the laundry area covered what we needed, and the room was a great deal. It is close to the highway, though. We're used to highway noise at home and tuned it out easily, but it could bother some people.

I planned to stay one night and wound up staying two. The room was immaculate, housekeeping and the rest of the staff were great, and the price was affordable. Christina Garcia at the front desk was especially helpful. I was traveling alone, and she had a great attitude and suggested places to visit, including local hikes down the bluffs to see sea lions and find some really awesome shells. Definitely recommend.

The staff were excellent, but the rooms are small and dingy, with no bathtubs, and the pool isn't heated. You can get a nicer-looking place with better rooms for about the same price if you go a little farther.

Getting suitcases upstairs was a struggle since there’s no elevator. The place is also very noisy, with the highway nearby and poor soundproofing. The welcome was friendly and the room was clean, but it felt dated and smelled musty. Even the old neon lights felt like a blast from the past. At least the morning coffee was a nice touch.
