The woman at check-in was friendly and knew her stuff, and the lake right next door was a welcome surprise. I loved the pool, the clean rooms, and all the outdoor seating. There’s also a big grassy space for dogs. The retro details are clearly cared for, and I still want to know where they found that turquoise rotary phone. It was nice to stay somewhere with its own character instead of another cookie-cutter hotel. I’d happily come back if I’m in the area.

A local recommended this place, and I’ve stayed here twice now. The teal walls and throwback phone, fridge, and microwave give the room a great old-time feel. I travel a lot and usually have plenty to nitpick, but the charm here outweighs those little things. Honestly, it’s one of the most amazing places I’ve stayed. Great place to stay!

We’d stay again. The only thing we weren’t keen on was the bed, which felt a bit too firm. Everything else was great, from the friendly service and clean room to the huge shower and heated outdoor pool.

Kevin, the owner, was friendly and helpful, and gave us a room facing the lake and tables. The room was nicely done, clean, and had enough space for the three of us. My teen daughter liked the decor, and the Route 66 feel brought back good memories from other motels I’ve stayed in farther west. We found a few places to eat nearby, including Subway and China Taste, where we got a salad and cashew chicken. We’re planning to spend some time at the lake in the morning and check out the cool courthouse we passed driving into Carthage. If pets are allowed, we’ll probably stay here again on our next overnight trip.

The bed was so hard I had a tough time sleeping on it, which is why I can’t quite give this five stars. Still, the place itself is perfect for relaxing, with a nice, quiet outdoor pool where you can have a few drinks.
