The restaurant has new management, but the chef is still the same, and the food remains amazing. The menu has a few new treats alongside the familiar seafood, and the prices seem reasonable for what you get and where you are. The dining room is beautiful, too. Expect a warm welcome and attentive service.
The waitress was lovely, friendly, and upbeat, but the welcome at the inn was rushed, with no explanation of anything. The place didn't feel well maintained to B&B standards, and it wasn't cozy or welcoming. My towels were frayed, the outlet by the bed didn't work, so there was no usable reading lamp, and rust around the bathtub drain put me off bathing. I asked for hot water at 10 pm. I've stayed at a lot of B&Bs and never had such a lame welcome. It wasn't worth the money.
We had a great view of the harbor, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The food was delicious, too. Downtown Castine, wooded hiking and biking trails, and a lighthouse are all a short walk away. We'll come back and bring friends.
The cheerful conversations with the owners made our stay at the Manor Inn feel extra special, along with the lovely breakfast and excellent accommodations. Their hospitality really warms you up, even in a harsh Maine winter. We'll be back!
The food at The Manor has been beautifully prepared and presented, and every meal I've had there has been delicious. The menu is small, around ten entrées, but covers seafood, red meat, poultry, vegetarian options, and Indian dishes, along with a few appetizers, salads, and very good desserts. The wine list is modest and inexpensive, with some nice ports to linger over. Service feels effortless, with your server usually out of sight until the next course arrives right on time. Prices are moderate, even a little lower than similar places along Maine's Midcoast Region. We haven't stayed in the accommodations, so I can't speak to those. The dining rooms and bar are on the first floor of this sprawling old inn. From the front dining room, the daytime views across Castine, the Majabagaduce River, and Brooklyn are breathtaking. It's a gathering spot for locals and their families, as well as people who come to Castine from faraway cities for family celebrations or vacations. People settle into the gorgeous bar to relax and chat with friends and strangers. This high rating is well deserved. You won't often dine like this.
