Prairie Motel

The place was clean, and I liked its country setting. That’s about where the positives ended for me. It was extremely outdated, the WiFi was only 2G, and the mattress and pillows felt hard as bricks.

Kwik Trip is right across the street, which was handy. The staff were super friendly, and the room was clean with the necessities. We were amused by the little coincidences: Elm Street, WiFi with 666 in it, and our friends’ room number being 13. We even joked about Freddy showing up with the extra pillows!

I checked twice while driving from Texas to Wisconsin, and once before leaving Texas, to ask about a monthly rate and whether a room was available. They said both were available. But when I arrived and came in with my service dog, suddenly they said they couldn’t accommodate me for a month. Other hotels in the area have told me the owners hold a grudge against dogs. I believe this violates state and federal law. I’ll file a complaint with the Wisconsin Attorney General’s Office later today, and possibly with the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. They’re extremely judgmental, and I don’t think they’re careful about who they let live and work there. There are drug dealers and people actively using drugs among the residents and workers. They’ve been warned, and hopefully it doesn’t turn bad for them, though I can’t see how it wouldn’t one day. It’s a shame, and I hate to see that happen to anyone, but they didn’t listen.
