The Continental Hotel

We chose the two-bedroom suite for our bridal party to get ready before our November wedding at The Majestic Theater, just down the street. It was much larger than expected, in lovely condition, and well stocked. At one point around 15 people were in there without the room feeling crowded. Our hair and makeup artists especially liked the natural light, which they said is unusual for hotels. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, and let us order restaurant snacks delivered to the suite in easy-to-share portions, like smaller croissants for chicken salad sandwiches. The gorgeous bar also makes a great spot for groomsmen photos. The Continental Hotel is one of the first places I recommend to visiting friends and family in Appanoose County, and it works especially well for couples getting married around Centerville.

We had a great room with plenty of space, including a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Service was excellent when I asked for a late checkout, and they were very accommodating. The bed was softer than I prefer, and the air flow from the control felt a bit weak. They also have breakfast and an attached restaurant. I'd absolutely stay again.

We were there about ten days before Christmas, and the decorations were beautiful. Sitting right on the town square, the historic hotel felt like a Hallmark movie set, with tall ceilings, modern room updates, and everything very clean. Everyone on staff was welcoming and kind, and Lucille's restaurant in the lobby was fantastic. I'll be back several times a year to visit my son, and this is where I'll stay.

I came to Iowa for work expecting just somewhere to sleep, but I was sorry I could stay only one night. The bar and restaurant add a lot to the atmosphere, and I wished I could've shared the experience with friends or family. The staff were kind, the rooms clean and renovated for modern needs, and there's history all through this lovely hotel in Centerville, Iowa, on the “world’s largest city square”. If you want a comfortable night's sleep surrounded by history, I highly recommend The Historic Continental Hotel.
