The lake and small mountains in the distance made a pretty view from our upstairs deck, and we came away with good memories. Our family of 16 enjoyed house. 14. The pools were nice, and the water park was fun, though it was crowded on Saturday with a long wait to get in. It might be better not to arrive at the first. Some of us liked the kayaks, though I wish they had paddle boats. We needed the golf cart, enjoyed the ice cream, and found food at the store by the water park. I was glad we brought groceries for the house, since otherwise we’d have had to drive several miles into town often. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially Lettie at the main office and Brandy at the activities building, who was so sweet with the children during the foam activity.

We had lovely views from the house, and whenever questions came up, staff were there to help. The house itself was great. We’ll definitely be back.

We’ve brought close to 50 people here for at least a week each summer for nearly 15 years, and we do still plan to return. But we’re really disappointed in how dirty the rental houses and resort have become. In our house, both stairway handrails were filthy. After one wipe, the dirt showed clearly on the cloth. Upstairs doors had what looked like soda splashed on them. The patios were so dirty we couldn’t sit out and enjoy company: the sliding door tracks were grimy, and the furniture was covered in dirt. Grease coated the dishes in the cabinets, and there was hair along the baseboards. The quality of every house that isn’t new has declined a lot. The pool also needs a deep clean, or even a full refinish. These houses need a proper deep clean at least monthly, including scrubbing baseboards, wiping walls and doors, cleaning door tracks, power washing decks, dusting fans, and running cleaning cycles in the washer and dishwasher. We hope our return next summer shows things have improved.

Chestnut Bay had a fun, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were both friendly and professional. We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay again.
