Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Chambersburg

After just one night, February 1-2, I checked out because the strong cigarette smoke made the stay unbearable. It had soaked into the room’s walls and furniture, and I could barely sleep. The sheets were itchy and uncomfortable too. When I explained the problem at the desk and asked to leave early, they wouldn’t refund the unused nights, even though the conditions felt unacceptable. The whole property seemed poorly kept, and the smoke smell was everywhere in the room. Management needs to address the odor and cleanliness before guests can be comfortable. This was one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. I’d give it less than one star if I could.

The thin walls woke us when children were running around. Then, while getting ready in the morning, we spotted an insect crawling up the bathroom wall. I think it was a roach, though I can’t be sure, since I’ve never had the misfortune of seeing one at my other hotels. We left as quickly as we could. Wyndham in Chambersburg, do better. This place needs major cleanliness improvements, and I wouldn’t recommend it. We’d booked at the last minute and settled on this hotel. The desk upgraded us to a king room at no extra charge, but it was immediately clear the room wasn’t clean. There were small stains on the bedcover, gunk on the shower soap tray, and dark hairs on every towel but one. My girlfriend and I had to share that towel. There were hairs on the shower wall from previous guests too. We thought we could get through the night, but we should’ve reconsidered. The ratings here are deceptive; I’d give negative stars if I could.

Ro leads a very helpful front desk team, and staff greet you in the hallways. It’s an economical, clean place to spend the night right by the highway. There are fast-food chains all over the nearby area, plus free coffee around the clock and Wi-Fi that doesn’t require a login. Just what I want when traveling.

The balcony gives you some extra space, and the kitchenette is a nice bonus. For the price, it’s a great deal, and I’d happily return. The room felt fresh as soon as I walked in, with a recent renovation, clean bathroom and modern-looking shower. The bed was comfortable too.
