The room and location were great, but dealing with the front desk “manager” was atrocious. My best friend was going through a lot and needed a night away. I spent an hour on the phone the night before to confirm the booking and make sure I could pay with my card. I was guaranteed that everything would be charged to mine and she wouldn’t need to show her card. When she arrived, the front desk “manager” refused to check her in without her card. My friend called me and put her on the phone, but she was incredibly rude, kept interrupting me, and said, “That’s not the way we conduct business.” I asked why the reservation manager had told me it was possible, but she wouldn’t hear me out. My friend, who’d already been through enough, had to put the charge on her card, and I had to Venmo her the money. Next time I’ll book somewhere with a more professional front desk.

We came to Tempe for True Rest Float Spa and found this Gem of a hotel just 10 minutes away. The staff were nice, the facilities super clean, and the beds comfy, with sheets like butter. The room was beautiful and cozy. There’s a bar downstairs, though we didn’t need one lol. We slept wonderfully and will definitely be back!

The property felt closer to a budget motel than a Cambria, especially compared with my stay at the Cambria in Fargo, ND. The AC units seemed locked and didn’t cool properly. Shower bases were stained brown, the shower caddy was dirty, metal fixtures were rusting, the beds had almost no padding, and the pillows smelled strongly of sweat. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and my room was never cleaned. I hope Choice Hotels corporate reviews this place because the service and privacy issues fell far below Cambria standards. I booked three nights, then arrived a day early and called on my flight day to add a night. I was told that was fine, but it would be split into two reservations, so I’d have to check out Sunday and check back in. I checked in around midnight Saturday and paid a $100 deposit. On Sunday I left with the privacy sign on my door. Around 3pm the front desk called and told me to return right away to check out and check in again. I was back in about 10 minutes and had to pay another $100 deposit. When I got to the room, the sign had been taken off the door and put inside, so someone had entered despite it being displayed. My room hadn’t been cleaned Monday. On Tuesday it was still uncleaned, with no fresh towels. I called the desk and spoke with Veronica, who argued about the reservations and said rooms are only cleaned on the third day. It was already the third day and no one had serviced mine. She eventually brought towels and said staff had “dropped the ball.” On Tuesday night I asked Lena at the desk if checkout could be extended to 2pm because of my later flight. At first she said no, then said there’d be a fee but couldn’t find the policy. After calling Veronica, she said it would cost $55. I declined and asked how late I could stay without a fee. She said 11:30am. When I returned to my room, my key had suddenly stopped working. After I went downstairs and explained how frustrating everything was, Lena later called and said the 2pm checkout was approved with the fee waived. At 11:30pm that night, Veronica called me from home. She said she’d gone home sick, that it was her second day as manager, and that the team “needed work.” The call went on way too long and felt extremely unprofessional. The next morning I left briefly with the privacy sign on my door. An hour later, I came back to find it inside the room again, so someone had entered despite the sign being out. Jacob at the front desk was very kind and helpful at checkout, but management mostly made excuses when they got involved. They eventually offered compensation, but refunded one of the nights booked with my mother’s reward points instead of returning the $269 I’d paid in cash. So the credit didn’t go to the person who actually paid. I would never recommend this hotel. I booked a 3-night stay, arrived a day early, and called to add another night. At check-in around midnight Saturday, I paid a $100 deposit. On Sunday I left with the privacy sign on the door, but the front desk called around 3pm and said I had to return to check out and check back in for the second reservation. I returned in about 10 minutes and paid another $100 deposit. The sign had been moved inside the room when I got back, meaning someone had entered while it was displayed.

The hotel was near our venue and within walking distance of a couple of nice restaurants, which was its best feature. For the room price, though, a lot was missing, and there was noise and disruption late at night. People ran down the halls, shouted and screamed at all hours, with lots of thumping sounds too. We didn’t have a plastic bag for dirty laundry, coffee or water in the lobby, an extra bar of soap, or a continental breakfast. Parking wasn’t free, and nobody told us when we booked that we’d have to pay. This was my first stay at a CHOICE hotel, and I’m not sure I’d book one again.

It was a very nice place five years ago, but it’s gone completely downhill. The floor was dirty, the fridge smelled disgusting, and both the sheets and towels had stains. People were walking around the lobby with pitbulls. We were put in a room right beside the loud elevator, even though the parking lot was less than 50% full. Those rooms should be the last ones filled. It’s not the same anymore. Never again.
