The beds were comfortable, the AC was on when we arrived, and the staff were nice. That's about where the positives end. We asked for a non-smoking room, but it reeked of smoke. The next day, maids were smoking outside our room, which may explain the smell. They were polite, but I have asthma and am very sensitive to smoke, so that really bothered me. I respect people's breaks and choices, but smoking in front of guests is dangerous. There wasn't a comforter in the room, and housekeeping still hadn't brought one the next day, so I had to ask at the desk. The hair dryer didn't work, and the tissues ran out without being replaced. This was our second visit. The first wasn't great either, but we wanted to give it another try. We probably won't come back and will stay somewhere else when visiting UNC. Maybe it's better during sports season. We came in summer, when there may be fewer guests because people are visiting beaches, but we'd rather spend our money somewhere that follows regulations better.

Everything is within 15 minutes, and the staff were exceptionally nice. This is an older hotel, but the rooms are clean and updated. The outdoor pool area is really nice, with tables and grills guests can use, and there's coffee available around the clock.

On our second visit, the room wasn't clean and seemed to have mold on the ceiling. Neighbors were very loud, and smoke from their smoking outside my door came into the room. The next morning there was no hot water. I called the front desk and waited over an hour without hearing anything. At checkout, I told the woman at the desk, who said they were still working on it, offered no receipt, then turned and walked away. Our first visit had been better, with a nice room and wonderful front desk staff. But one cleaning lady was rude when my husband asked for the room to be cleaned after normal hours and for towels. She argued with him, and he finally had to yell for her to leave towels and leave the room without cleaning it. The stairs to the second floor also get very slippery in the rain. My daughter fell down them, luckily without getting hurt, but they need some kind of traction.

We had a brief, enjoyable stay while driving from Fort Lee, Virginia, back to California after our daughter's deployment. It was affordable and very clean, in a quiet area with nearby food options. The pool looked great, but it was too cold for us to swim. We would have used it if the weather had allowed.
