River's Rest Marina & Resort

Set off the beaten path in the middle of a Wildlife Management Area, this campground is kept up very well. The grounds have paved roads throughout, so there’s less gravel and dust than at a typical campground. The RV sites are spacious, and the views of the Chickahominy River are beautiful. There’s a motel on site overlooking the river, and the Blue Heron Grille restaurant is here too.

For fishermen on the Chickahominy, this is the best place to stay. The clean, updated campground and lodge are just steps from a great restaurant, a pool, and an easy, uncrowded boat ramp. Staff like Johnathan are on site, answering questions, working, and keeping everything running smoothly. Everyone’s friendly.

It’s a great waterfront location. The rooms are plain, but okay, and there’s a pretty good restaurant on site that’s independently run. It’s fairly quiet and seems safe. The boats weren’t bothered, unlike at a nearby city I visited not long ago. I don’t think they’d let criminals wander around the property here.

The riverfront setting is scenic and relaxing, and the staff were very nice. Our room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant on the property, The Blue Heron, was under renovation during our visit, though I hear it’s very good. Hopefully we can try it next time.
