We had good communication with management, aside from a mix-up with the parking passes when we arrived. Once I explained that we’d already paid, it was sorted out. The location is great if you like being in the middle of everything and are okay walking farther for some places; rideshares and bike taxis are easy to find too. Even with bars nearby that local college kids go to, it was quiet inside. There’s just one window, facing a private parking lot. I took off a star for the stairwell down to King Street, which looked like it hadn’t been swept or mopped in a while, and another for the mattress in the bedroom nearest the entrance. Don’t lift the mattress cover if you’d rather not see what’s under it.

It’s easy to walk all over from here, with plenty of places to eat, historic sights nearby, and the free shuttle just a few minutes away. The location felt clean and safe, and the price was fair for the area, though I’m not sure where the $79 I saw online came from. Be ready for lots of stairs. There’s an old-fashioned freight elevator at the back near the parking.

We had a great stay in the Ashley suite, which has two bedrooms and bathrooms. The bedrooms and bathrooms had no windows, but the main room and kitchen had a window facing King street. There was a TV in every room. Towels, toiletries, and a hair dryer were provided, along with dishes, sugar, tea bags, a toaster, dishwasher detergent, and a dish towel. No coffee was supplied, though there was a machine and filters. I liked the refillable hand soap in the larger container, a nice touch for eco-conscious guests. It’s very clean and right where the shopping starts on King street. The one annoyance was how loudly the doors slam when people don’t take care.

The location, suite size, and amenities were good, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone seeking a clean, quiet stay. We were in the Drayton Suite. There were live bugs in one bed, which looked like large bed bugs, though they were identified as some kind of beetle. The floorboards were very dirty, the luggage rack was broken, and both mattresses had several urine stains plus another stain that couldn’t be identified and might have been blood. One mattress pad had hair and other debris on it. Dust and built-up lint hung over door frames and behind the TV. The hardwood floors are beautiful, but noise from traffic and slamming doors was very loud, especially overnight and in the morning. The owner wasn’t apologetic.

The one window is in the living room, and none of the bedrooms have one. Every room does have a TV, though. We had two rooms, one with its own bathroom and one connected to the living room and kitchen. The suites were furnished and maintained well, with a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, iron, and other amenities. Parking was excellent, since the building’s back door opens onto the lot, and there’s an elevator for anyone who can’t manage the stairs. It’s right in the heart of the city.
