Quality Inn & Suites Charleston - Civic Center

The desk lady was really nice, and the rooms were clean. We were in town for a motorcycle trip with friends and spent one night here. The downtown location is handy, with trendy restaurants within walking distance, though this is definitely a no-frills hotel. There aren’t any first-floor rooms, so everybody has to use the elevator. There were quite a few homeless people around the neighborhood, with some camping across the street. I’m not criticizing them, just mentioning it so you know what the area is like.

Check-in went smoothly, but the room didn’t look like the online photos. I only stayed a few hours because I found bed bugs in the bed. There was no coffee, and cable offered only three channels. I raised the problems with the front desk representative, who confirmed what I’d reported. I’ll book somewhere else in the Charleston area next time.

The rooms are big and have a nice refrigerator, stovetop, and sink. I was ready to call it a decent deal for the price, but then maintenance problems changed my mind. I’d worry about what might be broken in the room. Overall, it feels like a dump, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The service score reflects the poor upkeep.

The staff were nice, but this place is a sorry excuse for a hotel. I felt unsafe the whole time and got harassed by homeless people. I later found out there are three shelters surrounding the hotel. My room had to be changed because it was still dirty. There’s no pool, and the vending machines don’t work well. Avoid it if you can.
