Inn at Grey Gables

Grey Gables offers one of the best quality-to-cost ratios for fine dining around Boyne, Petoskey, and East Jordan, where prices can run high. The food, service, atmosphere, and whole experience were fantastic. I’m just sorry I took so long to try it.

The wine list was world-class, and they even made us a custom vegan dish that was better than we expected. The menu had something for everyone, the service was smooth, and the atmosphere felt calm and welcoming. We were genuinely blown away.

Sofia was so kind and did a great job serving us. It was her first night, but she knew the menu well, and I’d trust her recommendations. We sat on the porch, which has a bright table and a nice summer feel. The cherry fruit crisp is huge, so keep that in mind, but don’t miss it if it’s available. The little scones in the breadbasket were scrumptious, the mushroom bisque was excellent, and the Whitefish dinner was exceptional. This was my first visit after years of coming to Charlevoix, and somehow I chose the place just because I liked the name. I usually read reviews and menus first, but this time I just went for it, and what a dinner. It’s my new favorite restaurant in Charlevoix!

We had a lovely birthday dinner, and since it was quiet, we had the whole room to ourselves. I really like the house’s ambiance. The music, though, was downright goofy and distracting, like a piano version of “Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places.” It did add some humor to the evening! Maybe Radio Dismuke, something period-appropriate, or just neutral music would fit the building better. Thanks for a great meal.
