Canopy by Hilton Charlotte Southpark

There are restaurants and a bar right in the hotel, plus complimentary coffee and breakfast items each morning. The front desk staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was really nice. Nearby eateries like main st Restaurant, panera bread, and Ruth Chris are an easy walk, and there's a parking garage. On Saturdays, you can win a reward by playing trivia.

The rooms were clean, breakfast was good, and the location worked well. The front desk team were friendly, and the engineer they sent when my door wouldn't open was kind, too. I arrived with a headache and had to go downstairs several times before they fixed it. He took the panel off to put in batteries and said to ignore the red light because someone would reset it the next day. I saw that the latch had been adjusted and screws were going into different parts of the door. I took photos and asked if there was a safety concern, but nobody seemed to know. At night, I smelled marijuana in the garage. When I got off the elevator, a young man was pacing near my car. He then walked toward another car. I think he was probably just smoking, but seeing a man pacing there as a woman was scary. I paid $15 for parking and didn't feel it was secure enough for the cost. After dinner I was worried enough about my safety that I parked in the extra lot across the street instead.

I liked the location, and the stay itself was nice, but the billing mess has made me afraid to come back. On Valentine's Day, after my husband put his card in to pay for what he thought was his booked room, the hotel said they'd given it away and his reservation was canceled. We had booked through hotels.com, so we called them. They said the hotel had the wrong name and gave us a new reservation number. We had to put the card in again when we returned with the new booking. Later, Hilton by Canopy charged us $505.25, even though we'd already paid hotels.com $386 for that same room. The on-site manager said we'd paid for two rooms: the one we stayed in and another assigned to a man with a completely different name. Hotels.com sent a final invoice for $386, and we don't know why Canopy by Hilton charged us for someone else's room. The general manager resolved the charge issue and made it right. But later we got a reservation from Canopy by Hilton Southpark that included all the other man's information. I left the general manager a voicemail to say they'd emailed us his private information, which is scary in itself.

The location in Southpark was a good value, and it's easy to walk to restaurants. Every employee I passed greeted me warmly. The bar and restaurant were great, the service was lovely, and my steak frites was delicious. The room was spotless, with a comfortable bed and a nice shower. I liked the little extras: a fresh wrapped loofa in the shower, reading lights on both sides of the bed, and a glass jar for filling with filtered water from the machine down the hall. All of this came at a very reasonable price. One of the best hotel stays I've had.
