Hampton Inn Charlotte-Uptown

The hotel was clean, in a great location, and I felt very safe there. The young woman working evenings was especially kind and helpful, answering all our questions. After two weeks staying at different hotels with my family, this was one that met my expectations while many others didn't. Breakfast was a different story. The person in that area was rude every day and didn't keep things properly stocked. There was no yogurt or cream cheese, and when we asked, she looked annoyed. The manager should speak with her about changing her attitude.

The young man at the desk was great, though he seemed to be the hotel's only employee and was clearly stressed juggling check-ins, phone calls, and guest questions. Our room had no toilet paper, and he couldn't get access to any, so we took a roll from the lobby restroom.

The beds were firm and really comfortable, and we parked across the street because our vehicle was oversized. Still, this was only an okay stay for our youth hockey team and service dog. We paid extra for an upgraded king suite on the 11th floor, but it was an interior room with a view of the condo next door, and it shared a wall with the elevator. The elevator was extremely loud all night and sounded like it might have mechanical problems. On Saturday morning the fire alarm went off because of a kitchen issue. Breakfast was uncomfortable too. A kitchen staff member accused a player of taking food with his hands when he hadn't, and we felt watched the whole time. The tiny indoor pool was freezing; a heated pool would make more sense. There wasn't an area for dogs to go potty, and the city had few basic conveniences like trash cans. In winter, the location also isn't very walkable for kid-friendly dining. We were at the Hampton Inn Charlotte Uptown with the team. Several things need improvement.

We booked a double queen room for Friday 12/5 through Monday 12/8 while attending the Pop Warner Nationals Cheerleading competition. The room was extremely small, and the beds definitely seemed full size rather than queen. The walls were thin enough that we could hear everything from the hall and neighboring rooms. Parking was charged by the day, and they initially put a hold on my card for twice the parking cost, even though I'd paid $1100 for a three-day stay for my daughter and me. The pool was out of order the entire visit. With so many kids staying there and nothing else for them to do, that seemed ridiculous. Even some staff said they wouldn't recommend using the pool if it had been working. After the competition, our whole team came into the lobby and a manager loudly shushed us as soon as we'd barely stepped through the door. This hotel wasn't equipped for an event of this size. Our team will urge Pop Warner not to use it again.
