Days Inn by Wyndham Chesapeake

The in-room fridge was fairly large and worked well. I didn’t try the microwave, but the TV had a good choice of channels. If a comfortable bed at a low cost, with matching service and amenities, is all you need, this place may be okay. The room photo was fairly accurate, but the listing said light breakfast selections were included. At check-in, a less-than-welcoming desk employee told us they stopped offering it in 2021. Opening the slightly jammed door to our supposedly non-smoking room brought a stale cigarette smell right to my face. The neatly made king bed had pillows on only one side. When I asked for more, the staff seemed surprised I wanted pillows on both sides and handed me two wrapped in plastic. Their rough pillowcases might be good for exfoliating while you sleep. We had only two small, thin bath towels, plus two face cloths and hand towels. The floors looked clean, but walking on them left our white socks and the soles of our feet dirty. The tub was stained, and shower tiles jutted out enough that someone could get hurt if they slipped and caught a hand on them. There were no grab bars, despite the lowered tub, higher toilet, and lower vanity that were meant to make the room accessible. A card said linens and towels were changed every three days for environmental reasons unless you asked more often. It didn’t mention that the bed wouldn’t be made or the room cleaned. We found that out when we returned after our first day.

My family and I stayed at Days Inn for about five months and had no complaints. The staff were friendly, and the husband and wife who own the hotel treated us well. We appreciate you all and highly recommend it.

At checkout, I found a $6 "Safe fee" on the bill that hadn’t appeared in any reservation communication, and there was no lobby sign about it either. The desk employee said they always charge it and she couldn’t remove it. There was also a $50 deposit. Instead of refunding it at checkout, they charged another $50 with a note saying it was a deposit refund. I only noticed that when I reconciled my credit card statement. I disputed all three charges. The credit card company immediately gave me a permanent credit for the "Safe fee". I’m still waiting for the other charges to be refunded.

I know there are plenty of negative reviews, but we had no problems at all. My husband and I came from Wilmington NC, and Shena, or Sheena, I’m sorry if I have her name wrong, was working October 22/23 and was wonderful. She was very friendly and explained whatever we asked. Our downstairs room was clean and had the towels and other necessities we needed. The location worked perfectly for us, about 15 minutes from the casino. We’d come back, and I hope Sheena is there!
