Hampton Inn & Suites Chesapeake-Square Mall

The breakfast was nice, and Ms. Patty was great at her job as the attendant. Service was great from the moment we walked in. The rooms need updating, though, and the walls are thin. We could hear the guests next door talking as if we were all in the same room.

The rooms are a 4/5, though the lampshade was damaged. Breakfast gets 4/5, with eggs, hash, three cereals (Lucky Charms, Raisin Bran, and graham crackers), boiled eggs, bananas, yogurt, waffles, bagels, oatmeal, and apple, kiwi, orange, or water to drink. The bathroom gets 3/5. The renovated bathrooms look good, but the workmanship needs attention: the shower door was loose and barely held in its frame, there was paint and water damage, and the shower head was loose and spraying water. The hotel is decent, but the rooms need work.

Terry at the front desk saved the day when a mistake on my end caused a check-in problem. He was very helpful and got it sorted out, and the other desk agents were nice and helpful too. The room was clean and had everything we needed, though it was a typical Hampton Inn and nothing special. We’d definitely stay again.

I’m a regular Hilton guest, and this was the worst hotel room I’ve stayed in. I booked a King Suite, one of the hotel’s top-rated rooms, on 16 September 2025. It badly needs an upgrade: paint was chipping off the bottom of the door, wallpaper was bubbling and peeling around the bathroom, rust ran down the tub wall from the handle, and the soap dish and bedside lamps had rust and mildew. The desk lamp had much of its paint scraped off, and the old carpet bulged. There was no ironing board, so I called the desk. About 20 minutes later, a clerk brought one with a leg fallen off and a cover that smelled and looked moldy. I couldn’t believe an employee would bring something in that condition for a paying guest to use on nice clothes. I mentioned it to the morning clerk, who seemed unconcerned and told me to get her manager’s card and call or email her. If I hadn’t already paid and been unable to leave, I would have gone. I had to stay the night, though the bed was comfortable. The breakfast staff were caring and the food was tasty. Too bad the rest of the hotel couldn’t match them.
