Hampton Inn by Hilton Chester South

I’d stay somewhere else. We’re Hilton Diamond members and have used several Hilton properties, including Hampton Inns. We booked a one-bedroom suite online and arrived yesterday around 6 p.m. After waiting at the front desk for at least five minutes, someone finally came out. They greeted us as Hilton Honors members, but that was about it. The first-floor room smelled unpleasant as soon as we walked in, and it was warm. The thermostat had a blank screen and was hanging off the wall. The room looked dated and needed updating. The HVAC vents were caked with dust, so little air was coming through. There was also hair in the bathroom sink and tub.

Breakfast is very good, and although the hotel is right off I-95, you can’t hear the highway. It works fine for a short stop while traveling. The property itself is old and dated, from the layout to the furniture. Our room was generally clean, but the shower showed wear and the grout was discolored. Nearby guests opening or closing their doors made ours rattle. It looks like a new Hampton Inn is due to open next door in 2026, so they may not use this older location much longer.

The front desk staff were friendly, but that couldn’t make up for the state of this place. I’ve stayed at many Hilton hotels and this was easily the worst. There were spider webs and stains, a rusty microwave, rails sticking out, and a door latch barely holding on. Some conditions felt unsafe. They shouldn’t be charging more than $120 a night. It feels like the business doesn’t care what it’s giving the customers who keep it going.

The parking lot is dark, and the rooms are small and dated. It’s pretty clear the operator isn’t putting money into the property. There’s also a $5 parking fee in Chester, VA that wasn’t disclosed when booking. It’s buried under amenities on the hotel website, and neither the booking process nor the confirmation showed it as payable at the property. Don’t reward drip pricing. The operator seems driven by plain greed. Just don’t stay here.
