Carlton Inn Midway

Nothing about this stay was good, aside from being close to Midway airport. The room smelled harsh when I walked in, and there was hair on the towels. I was too tired to check the bed. In the morning, there was no hot water for a shower. At breakfast, there were no eggs, and after I asked for more, the staff started putting everything away just 10 minutes later. It was only 8:30 am, even though breakfast was supposed to run until 9. First, they tried charging me $130 a night. When I left the office, the person walked me back and said I could book online for $80. A terrible experience overall.

The whole stay was dreadful. The covers had cigarette burns and other gross marks, even though the sheets seemed clean, so I threw the covers on the floor. The shower fixture was broken and hanging off the wall. Our return shuttle took more than two hours to pick us up. At least our car wasn’t damaged or stolen. This was the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever experienced.

For $125 a night, booked a year ahead, I expected far better based on the online descriptions. The room was still a bit dirty, with someone else’s hair on the pillows, which made it seem like things weren’t being properly changed and cleaned. The photos on Google and Expedia looked nothing like our room. These conditions are what I’d expect at a $35 motel, so I can’t recommend staying here.

We paid a little less, but I’d rather spend more for a comfortable stay. The motel was noisy all night and felt like it was in a shady part of town. Parking was very cramped. At least the shuttle driver was polite, quick, and seemed safe. We rented two rooms the night before a flight. They weren’t anything special and were relatively clean, though I wasn’t sure about the sheets. One room smelled like weed, which I can’t stand.
