I lived at JeffJack for two and a half years and mostly had a positive experience. The building was well maintained, the location was convenient, and although one front desk employee could occasionally be rude, it didn’t affect my day-to-day life and I didn’t take it personally. I appreciated my time there. I’m sharing what happened when I moved out so future residents can make an informed decision, and I’d encourage anyone leaving to document everything carefully. I paid $200 to a professional cleaning company before moving out, and the apartment was extremely clean. Management sent me two shower photos and two vanity photos as justification for charges. The only two areas they cited were shown in those images. I’ve included the exact photos they sent and ask readers whether they think that warrants $250. I’m not saying if the charge is fair. That’s for readers to decide. The itemized estimate said I’d owe $125 to clean the shower and vanity, and I agreed to that. Later, the resident portal showed a final charge of $250. I asked about the difference by email and was told it was for resurfacing rather than cleaning. The estimate sheet says prices can change for repair or cleaning, but doesn’t mention resurfacing. They also said the original total had been $400 and was reduced to $250 “out of good faith.” I’ve paid the $125 cleaning charge from the estimate. The additional $125 was added later and remains in dispute. I’ve filed formal complaints with both the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Illinois Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, and would rather wait for their decisions before paying the rest. I’m concerned JeffJack could send it to a collection agency before a ruling, which might affect my personal life. I’m sharing this to help future tenants understand what could happen. You may or may not face the same situation, but it’s worth knowing. Ask in advance how move-out assessments are calculated. You could get a surprise at the end. I don’t usually write Google reviews, but I felt I needed to because the charge came as a surprise and the communication wasn’t clear. If management says the cleaning attempt failed, shouldn’t they show evidence of the attempt and its failure? They haven’t provided proof of the methods or work used. Without that, why should I pay for resurfacing I never agreed to, especially when I left the apartment clean? They say they “absorbed part of the cost out of good faith.” Why is the amount I owe entirely their decision? If the reduction was truly made in good faith, why not reduce it to the $125 on the estimate I agreed to, or absorb the extra cost completely? Their explanation makes it sound like the price is adjustable at will, with no clear standards or transparency, based only on their judgment.

The JeffJack team, from the door staff to maintenance, has been incredible. Everyone’s been friendly, respectful, and quick to respond since day one. A small maintenance issue I had last month was fixed within 24 hours. My unit was spotless when I moved in and feels like a real home, not just another rental. The care they put into the apartment and ongoing management makes a difference. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a quality place with a team that actually cares.

The location is great, and the amenities are hard to beat. The front desk team is outstanding, especially Lakita.

I felt at home at JeffJack, thanks in large part to the building staff. The leasing agents were attentive and knew their stuff, the front desk staff were welcoming and remembered me soon after I moved in, and maintenance and cleaning kept the building pristine. They responded to maintenance requests within hours. The unit was spacious, and the concrete frame meant I didn’t hear the neighbors. For work in the Loop, the central location was great, with easy access to the highway, Blue Line, and Union Station. There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance and great amenities in the building. I’d recommend it to anyone after a real downtown feel.
